This
is your time to Move Into Tennis with him. From
this serene and safely isolated environment that includes
a 29- year stand at the Lake Naomi Community, George
has built a track record that extends to the most formidable
levels of the game. Players developed through his programs
and private training have contributed to the varsity
teams at over 40 colleges and universities on all three
NCAA divisions. Of the USTA's 17 sections throughout
the country, 7 have seen his players in their top
ten rankings and four players have reached that organization's
National top ten list. Scholastic prep has been a big
part of the focus of the area's top training ground.
Coveted All-conference and post- season honors have
been bestowed on many participating through their High
School teams. Team and individual titles, finals and
"final four" rounds have been attained in
five different states in both private and public school
categories. A significant number have qualified for
prestigious events including the Orange and Easter Bowls,
Rolex International and the U.S. Olympic Trials. Let
those credentials not leave you daunted- but rather
wanted, as the overwhelming numbers of those finding
great success came as beginners to the Move Into
Tennis program. Have fun and learn fast!
Wolbers offers continuity to his seasonal efforts by making monthly training trips to Split Rock from his residence in North Carolina where his lives with his wife, Ellen Estes, a sculptor and educator. Their son, Charles, is an all-conference and first singles player at Southern Piedmont Conference champion Sun Valley High School. George
recently joined the men's and women's Tennis coaching
staff at The Charlotte Latin School. As a teacher of the
game and student of the sport, George spends valuable time devoted to the history of Tennis and is presently
serving as Vice President of the Tennis Collectors of
America, a national organization of which he is a founding
member. A piece from his private collection was included in the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum's
exhibit "Breaking the Barriers- Honoring the Achievements
of African Americans" in Newport, RI.
The eight outdoor (six Har-Tru) and three indoor Deco
II courts at Split Rock make any players learning or
practice session a "go", regardless of the
distance traveled, time of year, day or length of stay.
A full range of stringing and racquet services are available
on property. A comfortable two hour drive West of New
York or North from Philadelphia, Split Rock is the premier
family oriented resort tucked neatly around peaceful
Lake Harmony. A USTA schedule of three events including
the prize money Pocono Open will only add to the unique
tennis environment here for our guests and members this
season.

Pictured above with tournament director George Wolbers, the 2008 Pocono Open final featured 5th seeded Clint Bolick, formerly of Clemson and 2nd seeded Daniel Knause, of Furman. Bolick won a hard fought 6-3, 7-6 (5) struggle to take the title. |
